Commercial Refrigeration

There is a lot more to commercial refrigeration if compared to a normal household refrigerator, there are expansion valves and different types of copper tubing that each and every unit has a specific size and pressure value. The Princeible behind refrigeration, is pressure equals temperature and temperature equals pressure. The refrigeration is put under pressure and through this process it (sub)cools and (super)heats many times we encounter a bad copper tube that might be green a color from salt, this turns into a refrigeration leak and then the compressor overheats and goes bad.

Top things to look for if the refrigeration system is not cooling properly

  • Dirty Coil (On commercial applications, always try to keep the refrigeration system away from the grease fryer)
  • Coils - always pay close attention to the coils of the refrigeration system. We have precautionary systems for any make and model of refrigeration unit that we can install, to protect these units from the close quarter areas of the bar and restaurant kitchens. Lets be Honest, The main goal of any bar or restaurant is to keep the cash register ringing, this is why, it is a good reason to always keep a good appliance repair

Some evaporator and condenser coil repairs we have done

Appliance Repair USA, Refrigerator Repair and Tips

  • Most refrigerators and most appliances these days are based on the "Go Green" mentality, so everything inside of the refrigerator is geared for efficiency, this is to make it, as easy on the electric bill as possible, and this means a lot of sensors and computer boards and also computer software inside of the refrigerators of today.

Things that can make a refrigerator "Not Cool" are endless.

  • Thermistors
  • Bad Evaporator Fans
  • Bad Condenser Fans
  • Bad Compressor
  • Shorts in the wiring of the refrigerator
  • Problems with the software
  • Bad heaters that defrost the evaporator coil
  • Defrost safety devices that are not working properly

And with refrigerators, a small problem can lead to a very big problem-quick.

Some of the Worst Case Scenarios

  • A dirty condenser coil can lead to a problem inside of the refrigerator, like sweating or maybe the ice maker stops working. Most refrigerator ice makers will stop working when the freezer is above ten degrees, and this can be cause by a dirty condenser coil, but a dirty condenser coil can also lead to a bad compressor, so this is a good time to call a technician to come and service the unit, we always recommend shutting off the unit when you discover that the ice machine is not working.

  • A bad condenser fan motor can lead to a burned our compressor A bad evaporator fans can cause pressure changes, that lead to problems inside of the evaporator coils, and this can lead to a refrigeration leak or (freon leak).

Refrigerators have a defrost system that operates by shutting down the refrigeration system, and turning on a heater inside of the refrigerator, so there are a number of safety devices (per-regulation) that are inside of the refrigerator and if any of these safety devices fail they will cause a cooling problem with the refrigerator.

  • Bi-metal defrost
  • The defrost heater itself (Electrical Short)
  • The defrost timer
  • Circuit board (computer defrost timer)

Testing the refrigerator is the only way to find out whats wrong with the refrigerator, and that only way to do that is running a battery of test on the unit. There are a few things that you (the home owner) can do to maybe save the unit.

  • Check to see if the compressor is running hot, or making any odd noise
  • Listen for the evaporator fan motor
  • Listen for a clicking or snapping sound from the compressor are of the refrigerator
  • Look for any large iced up areas inside of the refrigerator, large block like, or snow like ice, this will be either on the back wall or the interior ceiling of the refrigerators fresh food or the freezer section of the unit, depending on model.
